As we approach year 2020, one objective that most of us have in mind is to save more money. Hence, we have decided to help you achieve this by providing you some simple steps to follow to ensure your hard earn money is put to good use on your wedding day. Here are some of our top tips:
1.Limit headcount
Headcount = money. The more people you invite to your wedding, the more expensive your wedding will be. If you want to save money, stick to only inviting close family members and friends. You should focus to inviting those who have known you well and have played an important part in your life. If possible, avoid inviting guests who are not very well known to you such as long-lost friends, or even colleagues whom you don’t really speak to. To be polite let others know your having a small wedding. If you really need to invite more guests then invite them for the wedding ceremony only and keep the wedding reception only for close family members and friends.
2.Avoid overspending on your engagement party
Yes, getting engaged is pretty exciting but you don’t want to blow your wedding budget on an engagement party. If possible, try to avoid having an engagement party. If you feel like celebrating, just invite a few family members and friends over to your home for some food and entertainment. Avoid overspending on lavish decorations. Apply this same concept to your ROM. Many brides and grooms tend to book an entire venue for their ROM and end up spending a substantial portion of their wedding budget on this event. To save money, head to the ROM offices and invite your family and friends to join you there instead.
3.Use e-invites instead of hard copies
By not printing your invitation cards, you will not only save money but you will also be saving the environment! There are many free templates online (such as Canva) which can help you create your wedding invite for FREE. If you must print hard copies, use these templates to create your wedding invite and once finalised, take it to the print shop for printing. You will save a lot of money by doing this as opposed to getting a designer to design and print your wedding cards.
4. Get guest to RSVP early
To avoid over ordering and wasting food, ensure your guests RSVP with you early so you have enough time to inform your caterer of the final headcount. This will ensure you don’t end up paying for guests who are unable to make it for your wedding.
5.Choose a venue which doesn’t require much decoration
The costs of decorating your wedding reception venue can be substantial. If you intend to save money, choose a venue which already has a nice background so that you can cut back on the amount of decorations. Alternatively, many venues these days also provide basic decoration for free if you opt to have your wedding at their venue.
6.Use buffet style
To save money, cater buffet style instead to sit down meals as buffet style is generally cheaper especially if you have a large number of guests. This option is generally only possible at event venues and selected restaurants. Avoid choosing hotels as your wedding reception venue as generally the cost per pax is higher compared to hosting your wedding in an event space/ restaurant.
7.Entertainment
Use friends and family members for entertainment during your wedding reception instead of hiring professionals. This way you can save some big bucks and also importantly, your wedding reception will have a more personalised touch.
8.Bridesmaid dresses
Instead of getting tailor made dresses, try buying dresses/ traditional wear from online retailers such as Zalora as it would cost less.
9. Make your own door gifts
Instead of outsourcing, get family and friends to help you assemble your door gifts. You can buy small gift bags from decoration shops and fill it up with some tasteful chocolates and walaa! your door gifts are ready!
10.Use local vendors
Use Malaysian wedding vendors instead of foreign as it is likely they will be cheaper considering they would not need to spend on travel and accommodation costs.
